David Allen Green is Of Counsel and head of the media practice at Preiskel & Co. He is a well-known lawyer and writer on commercial, media, and technology law, and he advises on both contentious and non-contentious matters.
David was recently selected by The Lawyer as one of the Hot 100 Lawyers of 2011.
David’s media law practice includes defamation, copyright, confidentiality and privacy, pre-publication risk management, and other forms of content liability. He is especially highly-regarded for his work in respect of social media and other internet-based publications. His recent experience includes acting successfully for Sally Bercow against a libel claim threatened by MigrationWatch; pro bono involvement in the British Chiropractic Association v Simon Singh libel case; the now struck-out libel cases against David Osler and Alex Hilton; and the current prosecution under section 127(1) of the Communications Act being brought against Paul Chambers.
David is an experienced and innovative technology lawyer, and he regularly acts for both suppliers and purchasers. He provides practical advice in negotiating complex development and outsourcing contracts. He frequently advises contentious technology matters (including contractual and copyright disputes) which require a solid grasp of the relevant technical and commercial issues.
David also contributes to Preiskel & Co's leading telecommunications practice. His experience includes working in-house at an international MVNO, acting in the Floe litigation in respect of the legality of GSM Gateways, and advising the NSPCC on the ChildLine development programme. He advises manufacturers, operators, resellers, carriers, and distributors, and he has also dealt with regulators throughout the world.
In addition to his TMT (technology, media, and telecommunications) work, David advises public bodies, charities, purchasers, and suppliers on commercial matters. From 2003 to 2005, David was an in-house adviser to the Office of Government Commerce, dealing successfully across civil government with a host of difficult challenges regarding public procurement, IT outsourcing, and Freedom of Information.
David was educated at the Universities of Oxford and Birmingham and was called to the Bar in 1999. He cross-qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and has since worked for leading City law firms and the Treasury Solicitor. He joined Preiskel & Co in 2009 so as to develop his own commercial, media and technology law practice.
David is also legal correspondent of the New Statesman. In 2010, he was named as one of the leading innovators in journalism and media and shortlisted for the George Orwell prize for blogging.
